Small Moment, Unexpected Joy

A delightful way to kick off March

Yesterday was one of those days at the end of winter that gives people hope. The weather had cracked 50 degrees. It was sunny. I was in the process of walking home from food shopping when I turned down a small alley.

Now you know those days where you just don’t rush? It was one of those days. So as I am strolling down this alley, I am struck by surprise by the sound of a man singing with piano accompaniment wafting from a bar I pass. The music reaches a place deep down in my soul. It is one of those songs that I may not be able to remember what I had to eat for lunch yesterday, but I will remember the lyrics to this song until the day I die.

“I can show you the world….”

No, it can’t be. Can it?

“Shining, shimmering, splendid…”

Ohhh, I think I know that alliteration anywhere.

“Tell me, princess, now when did / You last let your heart decide?”

Okay, that’s it. My heart has decided that I will stay in the middle of this alley until the end of the performance.

“I can open your eyes”

Well, you opened my ears and touched my soul, so I do not doubt the eyes part.

“Take you wonder by wonder”

You have shown me the location of a piano bar a block away from my apartment. Oh, you have done enough sweet voice of an angel.
