Shake It Fast
Today at work I put on a mix from the year 2000 which sad to say is older than some legal adults that are out there. This mix created by someone at Spotify featured one song in particular.
That’s right, “Shake It Fast” by Mystikal. Yes, I’m well aware that “fast” was not the originally word used in the title. I had forgotten this fact and then the song came on and it was like “whooaa, not work appropriate, switch it quick, switch it quick.” Thankfully no one was around at the time but yeah, totally forget that some classic songs had titles that mayyy not be quite work appropriate. For example, Back That Thang Up by Juvenile.
The thing is though even these songs have extremely questionable lyrics, they still make me smile because they take me back to a time where life was simpler ie high school. I’m not saying life was easier but it was simpler. Do you have songs like that in your life? When this song came out, I was trying to navigate Algebra II (mildly successful) while finding dates to dances (less successful) and trying to find myself (still working on it I guess.) Songs have the power to bring us back to certain periods in our life. Can I remember what I ate for lunch two days ago? Nope. Can I remember all the lyrics to any N’SYNC, Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls hit? Absolutely. And that’s pretty neat.
So if a classic like Shake It Fast comes on and it takes you back in time for a brief period, enjoy it. And when you are done and want to return to the present..well pump your right fist in the air and just say “Bye Bye Bye.”
