Saying Yes to Yoga?

My body hates me right now

Today in a fit of insanity, I decided I should do yoga. Now millions of people enjoy yoga. (I don’t have numbers to back up that assertion, it is just my guess.) Many people rave about its health benefits. It’s calming; it helps with stress and assists with mobility…there are many wonderful things to say about it.

Also, has anybody ever watched a yoga video where people don’t look like they are thiisss close away from a state of zen? No. No, you haven’t. I don’t believe they exist. And let’s face it, we all could use some zen in our lives.
These reasons are what brought me today to participate in a Youtube yoga class. These videos are fantastic, and I have nothing but positive things to say about the instructor (Yoga with Adrienne — check it out.) I will say that I did not look like I was in a zen state during the 31-minute class. (Yes, I felt every minute of it and was counting the seconds.)

So this particular yoga class I participated in was designed especially for the back. And man, it was tough. Legs were sticking in ways that they don’t go naturally. There was a downward dog position that looked nothing like any dog I have ever seen. There was lots of questioning that went through my head. “Who came up with this torture pose?” “Did she just say “reach your bliss”?’ “Will I ever be able to get up from this position?”

Also, they should warn people that once you reach 35, things start to crack. I never learned that in school, and I feel like that…
