Prettiest Broadway Songs

A list by someone who has listened to a lot of Broadway songs
I love musicals. I had no idea how much until the pandemic hit and Broadway shut down, and I didn’t go to a show for almost a year and a half. In honor of the Tony Awards being tonight, I have compiled a list of some of the prettiest songs to ever ring out from the Broadway or West End stage:
- “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” — Beautiful. Okay, it is a jukebox musical, but Carole King’s simple song about wondering if someone will still love her tomorrow is beautiful.
- “Suddenly Seymour” — Little Shop of Horrors. Seymour, born at the bottom of Skid Row, falls in love with Audrey (who also has had a tough life) and expresses how much he will always be there for her.
- “Corner of the Sky” — Pippin. Do I know how someone came up with the idea to make a musical about the son of Charlemagne? No. Does it still have some of the best musical songs written? Absolutely.
- “Journey to the Past” — Anastasia. It’s a song about looking to the past to try to figure out your future path.
- “Why God Why?” — Miss Saigon. Chris had managed to get through his tours in Vietnam without becoming too emotionally invested until he met Kim.
- “For Good” — Wicked. Sometimes, friends can’t be with you physically, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t left a mark emotionally.
- “I’m Here” — Color Purple. Celie’s song about surviving all she has been through is fantastic.
