Museum of Broken Relationships

One of the most unique museums I have ever heard of is the Museum of Broken Relationships. Initially located in Croatia, it appears that there is also one now in Los Angeles.

From my understanding, people submit items of their relationships that have become…well broken. According to the website, the museum “offers the chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creativity.” I think that’s pretty cool.

It’s also cool because I feel like single people can visit and not feel awkward. It might be the only location where it is awkward to suggest it as a date night idea. “Honey, want to go to the Museum of Broken Relationships?” “Are you trying to tell me something?” “No….”

But to think about it on a more personal level, pretty much everyone has had a relationship that has become broken, through one way or another. You are left with broken hearts, plans that won’t happen and dreams that will not come to fruition. In addition, you are left with tangible items such as books, CD’s, clothing that you can’t quite throw out but you really shouldn’t keep either. Since you can’t donate your broken heart, this museum offers a way to give a second life to those tangible items, the physical detritus of an ended relationship.

In conclusion, the museum might be entitled “Broken Relationships” but it’s a really great idea.
