Hi Folks, We are returning for another edition of the longest-running musicals. We are now in the 21–30 range, so we will see how well I know them. Let the curtain rise…
21. Hello, Dolly!
Synopsis: Dolly Levi is the woman who can do it all, but can she win the heart of curmudgeonly Horace Vandergelder? You will have to watch and see. There are also a couple of side plots involving two young adults from Yonkers, NY, who have a wonderful day in the Big Apple. I will always have a soft spot for this show.
Most popular song: Hello, Dolly. The title song and it’s a work of art on stage. Also, it will forever hold a special spot in our family’s heart because my mom-mom was a character just like her and left a party once having this song play her off.
My favorite song: Hello, Dolly, for the reasons listed above. Coming in hot, though, for second place is Before the Parade Passes By. Do yourself a favor if you have yet to see Barbra Streisand’s version of it, and look it up on YouTube. It is the most seize-the-day type of song until, well, Seize the Day became an actual song.
22. My Fair Lady
Synopsis: Henry Higgins takes on the challenge of classing up a local flower girl Eliza Doolittle.
