Longest Running Musicals 11–20
Okay we are going onto the slightly (but still very popular) shows
11. Rent
Synopsis: It’s about a group of people in their twenties-thirties “at the end of the millennium” who are doing the best they can with their lives, whether that be in relationships, jobs, passions, or illnesses.
Most Popular Song: Seasons of Love. It’s the most popular song for a reason — listen to it.
My Favorite Song: There are so many good ones, but “I’ll Cover You” takes the top spot. It’s a happy duet sung by two people who love each other.
12. Jersey Boys
Synopsis: It is about the rise (and kind of fall) of the Four Seasons musical group.
Most Popular Song: Probably “December 1963 (Oh What a Night)”
My Favorite: “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” and if you are presently picturing Heath Ledger singing it, I can guess your age to within a decade.
13. The Book of Mormon
Synopsis: A group of Mormon missionaries goes to Uganda to preach the Book of Mormon. While that description makes it sound like it isn’t the most irreverent show, it is. There are several moments where a viewer is like, “OMG, I can’t believe they just did that.” It’s very funny.
Most Popular Song: “Hello!” is the intro song and sets up everything.
My Favorite: “I Believe” — it is a belter and makes me laugh whenever I hear it.
