Joy of July 5: Humidity

Humidity seems like an odd thing to bring joy. After all, it does not do wonders for my hair. (Unless I try to get my hair to look like a lion’s mane which shockingly I don’t do try to do often.)

And if you live in Florida, that humidity is a horse of a different color. (Or humidity of a different weather condition?) See northeast humidity has nothing on Florida humidity. I once slept outside on a lanai in Florida. At night, it wasn’t bad. In the morning, there was sweat dripping off me. In addition, I have a friend who lives down there. I’m pretty sure she hasn’t straightened her hair in fifteen years because there is absolutely no point — it will essentially curl up as soon as she walks outside.

But the humidity was the secret hero of my night last night.

See, I had a game. Unfortunately, this coincided with mother nature deciding to host a summer rainstorm. I don’t mind a bit of rain, but I only had on shorts and a t-shirt, and the rainstorm dramatically lowered the temperature until the humidity returned. I was pretty chilly playing at first and wished I had worn sweatpants. I even communicated this thought to a member of the opposing team who was wearing like a full body sweat-suit outfit.

So while I mentally prepared myself for the likelihood of being cold for a couple of hours, my secret hero appeared. To my great delight, it was if the humidity took a nap during the rainstorm and decided to return in time for my game. And it was lovely. I warmed up, and the shorts/t-shirt combo ended…
