How Little I Know Sometimes
Yesterday, I played tour guide for a friend of mine who had never been to Philly.
Now I’ve lived in Philly for several years. Several. And yet, I learned quickly how little I knew about my hometown.
We were walking down the streets of Philly when we passed Christ Church. Now, Christ Church is not as famous as the Liberty Bell, but it’s not exactly obscure.
As we pass it, I point it out and say, “That’s Christ Church. It’s…old.”
It’s old? IT’S OLD? Is this really all I can come up with?
Hoping to redeem myself, I wrack my brain for at least one other fact I can throw out about it.
“Some of the founding fathers probably went there.”
SOME OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS PROBABLY WENT THERE. Dear God woman, and you call yourself a Philadelphian.
My friend gracefully laughed at my description rather than giving me grief, which he was well within his rights to do. He said he appreciated the quickness of it.
But yeah, it turns out that I have a lot to learn about my own city. I’m going to look at it, though, from the viewpoint that it’s always great to know that you have more to learn about something.
