Happy Fill In The Blank
It’s a big holiday weekend
The following conversation occurred yesterday when I got home to my parents’ house:
Me: “Mom, I brought home my llama mask for Easter!”
Mom: “Okayyy??”
Me: “You know, llama of God, you take away the sins of the world…”
Mom: (long pause) “You really are your father’s daughter.”
So I love the holidays, any and all. If you want to celebrate Arbor Day, find me a tree. You want to celebrate “national pizza day,” I’m all game. St. Patrick’s Day? I’m memorizing the words to “Rattlin Bog” and wearing green for approximately a week ahead of time.
This weekend has three holidays converging on it depending on your faith. Passover kicked off yesterday evening, Easter is tomorrow, and Ramadan has been happening since April 1st. I grew up celebrating Easter.
To me, my favorite part of Easter is time spent with family. Growing up, we would go to my mom-mom and pop-pop’s house, eat this sausage egg cheese, casserole thing which I have no idea of the origins of but it is delicious, donuts and fruit salad, which was in the same plastic bowl, every year. My cousins have always been some of my favorite people, so Easter offered yet another opportunity to hang out with them — yay! Since my grandparents passed away, the holiday celebration has bounced around the various relatives, but it always involves family.
