Life Lesson From a Five Minute Uber Ride
Last night, I took an Uber home from a friend’s house.
This, in itself, was not an unusual occurrence. I’ve taken lots of Ubers home. What was remarkable, though, was the driver.
So, after she pulled up, I got in the vehicle hesitantly, even after checking the license plate. The driver turned to me and said, “Hi Erin!” like we were old friends. I loved it.
During the drive home, she started coughing a little bit and had a raspy voice, so I commented about her allergies being bad.
She responded that she did have mild allergies, but there was an alternate reason for her voice being raspy…
Karaoke.
I started laughing and said that was the best possible reason anyone could have for a raspy voice.
Because I’m naturally curious, I asked who she was singing at karaoke.
Whitney Houston and Tina Marie. Now, Tina Marie, I don’t really know, but everyone knows Whitney.
And you know what? God bless her for going all in on karaoke night.
Like she could have quietly sung the tunes of the late great Whitney Houston, let’s face it, very few people have her range.
But no, she sang her little heart out to Whitney classics and had to have been singing them at such a volume/duration that she had a raspy voice the day after, and I appreciate that. The woman leaned into her karaoke night and had a great time.
And I hope that when we all have our turn at the microphones of our lives, that we all have such fearlessness in life to sing our hearts out and to be able to enjoy when others do the same.
