The current season of Queer Eye: more than a makeover dropped last week on Netflix. This season, set in Austin, TX, features ten individuals who, for various reasons, were selected to receive the help of the Fab Five for a week.
Now maybe you are thinking, “isn’t it just a makeover show?” But to paraphrase Rowan Atkinson from his role in Love Actually, “it is so much more than a makeover.”
See the boys (and one non-binary individual) come in each week and help people understand that they are already beautiful and they are here to help show that to the world. And really, who doesn’t want a cheerleader like that? They don’t tell people things such as to lose weight, fix familial relationships or for the love of Pete — please style your hair better. In short, they don’t judge.
Instead they celebrate the beauty and individuality they automatically see in each person. In doing so, they can connect with people from wildly different backgrounds. It’s uplifting, inspiring, and honestly, they give some great design/beauty tips as well.
