A Day to Celebrate Female Friendships

Today is Galentines Day which I believe was made up in the show Parks and Recreation. To summarize Galentines Day in the show: on 2/13, each year, Leslie would go out for breakfast with her best gal pals and basically espouse about how great they are. I’m all for this. Frankly I’m all for great female friendships, whether onscreen or off.

I could go on forever about the certain ladies in my life who I consider among my most trusted friends but for the purpose of this article, I will focus on the great fictional TV friendships. So in no particular order, here are the list of my favorite TV female friendships.

  1. Lucy and Ethel from I Love Lucy.

This is my all-time favorite show and the one that probably got me hooked on shows with great female friend duos. Lucy is always the friend with the crazy scheme and Ethel is always the one who goes along with it, often to hilarious results. They love hanging out together and support each other, through thick and thin.

2. Mary and Rhoda from Mary Tyler Moore Show

Mary moves into the apartment building and immediately buts heads with Rhoda. Quickly though, these opposites attract and they become fast friends and are hilarious with their repartee.

3. Laverne and Shirley from Laverne and Shirley
