Carrots

Some people have statues made of them, others have portraits and still others have ceremonial benches. William of Orange had a whole shade of carrots for them.

That’s right, I just learned that carrots weren’t originally orange until some smart Dutch individual made them that color in honor of their famous leader William of Orange.

Now imagine that marketing meeting:

Leader: “Now team, what should we do to celebrate the delight that is the Netherlands.”

Person 1: “We could have a parade?”

Leader: “Already been done.”

Person 2: “We could have an incredibly welcoming society where most of the people speak at least two languages and everyone bikes everywhere.”

Leader: “Already done as well. C’mon people what hasn’t been thought of? I want you to really think outside the box. No idea is too ridiculous.”

Person 3: “We could make carrots orange in honor of William.”

Everyone does a slow turn to face person 3.

Leader: “Can that be done?”

Person 3: “I mean I think so. It shouldn’t be too difficult with cross breeding and genetics.”

Leader: “Okay then, let’s do it people. Person 3, great job! You are team lead for Project Orange Carrot.”

Person 4 slowly hides his poster for a boat named after William of Orange.

Like how fun is that? You are so revered in a country that you get a shade of a vegetable specifically designed after you. And on top of it, you get the vegetable known to help eyesight so you don’t have to worry about seeing the orange carrot designed after you.

Well done Netherlands. It’s a weird tribute but I think its great.
