Appreciate the Little Things
Or being a pigeon isn’t easy
January 24 was National Compliment Day. As I was walking out of work with a couple of colleagues, I explained to them about this illustrious day.
Okay, explaining is a little much. It was just telling them.
One of my colleagues likes to take the opposite views on every topic, so as I was telling the two of them about National Compliment Day, he responded that there didn’t need to be a holiday for everything like we don’t have to give out participation trophies anytime anyone does something.
I responded that my view was that it was more about appreciating the small things in life and celebrating them.
And as soon as I said that, a group of four women in front of me shrieked and darted away from where they were standing. As they dispersed, I see that a hawk has swooped down and is flying away with a hopefully deceased pigeon.
My colleague goes to me: “Did the pigeon not appreciate the small things? Is there a national pigeon day?”
I responded that I was sure there was and would let him know.
And I will celebrate it.
