50 Pies for 50 States

Today I want to highlight an awesome individual whom I have never met but who is doing a very cool project.

Stacey, who is from Singapore/Hong Kong but has chosen to make the U.S. her home, is on a mission to bake a pie representative of every state in the United States. That’s 50 pies, folks. She does research into each state and crafts the pie to make something traditional to the area. Plus she fills her blog with fun facts about each state and then gives each pie to a friend of hers from that state. Like I just learned that Pennsylvania apparently has no state foods. That’s just lame. Get on the ball PA. For crying out loud, Texas even has a state pepper (jalapeno).

In addition, Stacey is a huge fan of Dolly Parton. And really, who isn’t? That woman is a national treasure.

Anyway I love that this pie in the sky plan has almost come fully to fruition. (Can I make a FRUITion pun here since we are talking about pies?) She only has 8 pies to go and I can’t wait to see what she makes.

Now pies are definitely above my baking pay grade at this time, but what a cool way to combine passions?! Maybe I can make different brownies per state? Can you do key lime brownies for Florida or would that be disgusting? And I have now gone down the brownie rabbit hole but Stacey, thank you for following your baking passion…now I have to go find some sweets.
